Measuring in Non-Alcove Spaces:

When measuring for furniture in a non-alcove space, all we need are the maximum width, maximum height of your desired furniture.

Measuring in Alcove Spaces:

For furniture in an alcove space, simply disregard skirting boards and picture rails, and measure from wall to wall at the widest point.

We need two sets of measurements:

A. Existing Alcove Space Dimensions

  1. Alcove width
  2. Alcove height
  3. Alcove depth
  4. Skirting height

B. Desired Cabinet Dimensions

  1. Base cabinet height
  2. Base cabinet depth
  3. Total cabinet height (including bookcase, if applicable)
  • The base of the alcove cabinet usually protrudes from the chimney breast by approximately 50mm to 150mm.
  • The maximum cabinet depth is the base cabinet top. Your usable internal cabinet shelf depth will be 8cm less than the base cabinet top depth.

Measuring for a Wardobe

  • Allow 600mm from the back wall to the front of the wardrobe door, this gives an ideal internal depth of approximately 540mm for your alcove wardrobe.
  • Allow a minimum of 1,000mm (height) for an average hanging rail inside the wardrobe.

General Measuring Tips:

  • Measure in Millimetres: Please record your measurements in millimetres
  • Precision Isn’t Necessary; Don’t worry too much about accuracy, our cabinet construction accommodates a tolerance of up to 20mm.
  • Room Features: Inform us about any window ledges, curtain poles, plug sockets, or radiators in the space, and we’ll ensure your furniture fits seamlessly. A photo of the space is ideal.
  • Do Not Remove Original Features: Please do not remove skirtings, picture rails or dado rails from within the alcove space, we can work around these allowing you to retain original features
  • Measure Twice: Double-check all your measurements to avoid errors. Write down each measurement as you go to prevent confusion or forgetting the numbers.
  • Scaled Drawing: Please note that your measurements will be clearly highlighted in red on the scaled drawing provided for your approval.
