Environment: Our Commitment to Sustainability

DIY Alcove Cabinets is committed to minimising our impact on the Environment. Learn how we are committed to sustainability through eco-friendly practices, responsibly sourced materials, and waste reduction.

Suppliers: Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our sourcing practices. We only partner with suppliers who recognise their environmental responsibilities.

Materials: Our furniture is designed with the planet in mind, which is why we choose not to use solid wood. For example, oak trees take a minimum of 25 years to mature — a significant amount of time. Instead of cutting down these trees and pledging to replant them, we believe it’s better not to cut them down in the first place. We use sustainably sourced MDF as an alternative, which offers superior quality and an eco-friendlier option.

Our MDF boards come from sustainably managed forests that utilise ‘waste’ from the sawmill sector, playing a key role in recycling within the forestry industry. We are committed to using only materials certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Waste: Our waste is minimised by sheet material optimisation software and is sorted ready for collection by Chambers Recycling Waste Management.

Packaging: Where possible we use packaging that can be recycled.

Workshop: Our state-of-the-art workshop uses only LED lighting and even our toilets have eco minimum water use flush.

Machinery: Our machines are manufactured and supplied by Biesse, Masterwood and the Homag Group. The machines all come equipped with ecoPlus technology. ecoPlus encompasses a whole raft of innovations designed to save energy. On top of this, ecoPlus helps to reduce CO2 emissions and so also plays a part in protecting the environment.
